BUSY BUILDING SEASON Prospects That 1913 Will Lead All Previous Years in Building in Northwestern Nebraska ALLIANCE WILL LEAD An optimlKtlc spirit prcMiils anion j business men and people generally In this part of the west, in Allknn It is believed that the year 1HU will be one of the best for business In the history of the elty. U is already evident that building opera tions will b extensive. Work Is now In progress clearing away the debris of the oM Central school house, preparatory to erecting the new building, which when com pleted will be one of the finest pub lic buildings In this end of the state and will not be excelled by any oth er In Us adaptability to school pur poses. It is claimed by those who ought to know that the new court house to be constructed thlB year will be the best In the panhandle of Ne braska and probably the finest and best in proportion to the cost of any court house in the state. As to the federal building which Alliance l to have some time, that is may be yet in the dim and dis tant future. The proposed govern ment building for this city has been used so long as a political asset of the Sixth congressional district that it has become a case of "hope long deferred making the heart sick". However, with the change of admin istration it is reasonable to expect that it cannot be successfully used hereafter as a bait for votes and that something tangible will be done within the next few years. E. A. Hall Is making extensive im provements to his residence at 718 Cheyenne avenue. The building is being raised on the foundation and the roof is being raised, making the ceilings of the upstairs rooms high er. A story Is also being added to the kitchen part. The house is be ing otherwise remodeled to some extent. An upstairs bath is being added. When completed It will be one of the elegant reBldneoes of the city and one of the most convenient In Its appointments. Contractor O. H. Moon has charge of the carpen ter work. H. T. Carey's new bungalow south of the Academy, on Big Horn ave nue, west of W. E. Spencer's resi dence, Is ready for the plasterers. It Is 26x42 and contains six rooms and bath. It la a pretty and conven ient property and nicely located, and will be for sale as soon as complet ed. The Herald has information that Wm. Davidson contemplates erecting a number of buildings on his farms near Alliance this spring, including residence and barns, but cannot say yet Just what the buildings will be. Contractor Bart Young has com menced work on the framing for a residence to be built on Krausc Bro thers' ranch, twenty miles northeast of Alliance, In Sheridan county. The house will be about 28x:i6, two stor ies. The Forest Lumber Co. Is ship ping the lumber for the building to Reno, from which place it will be hauled to the ranch. Contractor J. W. Burns will com mence work as soon as weather per mits on a fine residence property for Dr. J. P. Maxfiek), on Emerson ave nue, near Emerson school. The house will be ;50xil0, two stories, and will cost about $;t,000. This will be one of the finest buildings in a part of the city that is building up with coxy cottages and comfortable two story residences. J. W. Burns orders an advertise ment inserted on this page of The Herald, to which we scarcely need call attention, as it is quite con spicuous. We wish to call attention of our readers who think of building to the ads of other contractors and builders that appear in this paper. Dan Hoppis is doing the carpenter work on an addition to the neat res idence of Mr. and .Mrs. Edwin ShieldR, 210 Bweetwataf ifMM, C. R. Wit ham will erec t a fine one-story residence, 28x42, at 605 Big Horn avenue, on the lot from which the house which he sold re cently was removed. A. S. Mote, the contractor, began work excavatnig for the cellar, but was stoopped ly the cold freezing the ground. Work will be resumed as soon as the weather permits. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Spencer will have a new sleeping porch at their fine residence, 1004 Cheyenne ave nue. There are prospects that there will be an unusual amount of building done this season In the form of re modeling and additions. This will add as much or more to the appear ance of the city snd the conveni ence of residences as the same amount expended In new buildings. Sam Ttllett's residence was Im proved In appearance and conveni ence by the remodeling of a porch last week. J. W. Burns did the work, O. O. Gentry's new house at 712 Platte avenue is completed except the plastering and inside finish. It is 28x'.i6, one story with dormer and gable rooms, and presents a very attractive appearance. Mr. and Mrs. Gentry will move into it as soon as it is ready for occupancy.
