The state constabulary arrived and took charge of the situatien. which seemed too appalling for the local rom mltfee which bad worked all night. Immediately orders were Issued to the railroads to bring no more sightseers to Austin and sentinels were placed on the chief roadways with instruc tions to pass none but workmen. Hun dreds of automobiles and carriage Were turned back. During the night searching parties witli engine heullights. automobile lamps, pine torches and improi 1 lanterns of every sort joked their way into every pile of wreckage that was accessible, seeking any who might tie alive, but scarcely a body was found in which life was not extinct.
