turning Wednesday.
Mrs. Fred Melic has gone back to
her old home at Bennett, Nebr., and
expects to be gone until Christmas.
A. M. Miller, who was taken ser
iously ill a couple of weeks ago-, was
able to be out last Friday for the first
time.
Melvin Scott, who has been working
here for several mpnths, has gone to
his home in Pennsylvania to spend the
winter.
Frank Goodman, who has been the
night operator at the depot for several
months past, left for his home in Des
Moines, Iowa last week.
Ella Brown, while waiting on the
table at the hotel Monday evening,
spilled a cup of hot coffee and scalded
her. hand and arm quite badly.
Two babies wer6 born last week a
boy to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dufick,
and a girl to Mr. aud Mrs. Von Bergen.
Miss Tiller of Hamburg, Iowa, a
graduate of the Wesleyan University
at Lincoln, gave an elocutionary enter
tainment at the Methodist church last
week.
Little Frances Olds got her finger
cut quite badlv last week on a corn
knife, while she and somel other little
folks were playing with it unobserved
by anyone.
A. H. Pierce was taken Bick on the
street Thursday morning and his son,
K. L. Pierce, took him in the bank and
Dr. Little was summoned immediately.
Mr. Pierce is now as well as usual.
Kev. Burleigh and wife went to Des
Moines, la,, last week on a visit to his
' mother, who is quite feeble. They re
turned Tuesday, having stopped off at
Lincoln for a few days on their way
home.
What might have resulted in a ser
ious accident, happened Saturday night
when Robert Curry ran into a tele
phone wire, which had been cut and
let lay, striking him across the throat
and jerking him off his feet.
Mr. Hernchal returned the first of
the week and is going to take Mr.
Carey's position as supply agent, the
latter having accepted a similar posi
tion at tho Alliance depot, intending to
move his family there soon.
There was considerable excitement
Sunday evening at Dr. Little's resi
dence when the portiers in some mys
terious manner caught fire and the car
pet was also badly burned. Mrs. Lit
tle was upstairs and the fire was not
noticed until some minutes after it had
started.
A large crowd attended the dance
here Friday night, given by the Knights
of Columbus. There were about fifty
I persons from Alliance present. Father
McNamara gave a short talk about his
visit to Ireland, which was very inter
esting. Owing to the short notice
given to the Russell House, it was
impossible to give the intended banquet,
but a lap supper was appreciated
about twelve o'clock, most of the Al
liance people having had no dinaer or
supper.
