Benny, when you agree with me,” said Billy. “Tell us about yourselves.” saiil the other buffaloes. “Well,” said Billy, “I will let my partner speak. He is a better speak er than I am." “Oh. nonsense,” said Benny. “1 de not mean to say that you speak non sense, but in this ease you are prais ing me entirely too much. You are the one who should do the speaking You’re the speaker buffalo, if there if to be a speaker buffalo." “And there is surely to be a speakei buffalo,” said the oilier buffaloes, for they wanted to hear the story. “Well, you had better begin," said Billy. “You had better begin,” said Benny. Both the buffaloes looked at each other and grinned. And the other buf faloes in the zoo said: “There will be no speaking and there will be no story if one of you does not start." “True,” said Billy. “They're wait ing for you. partner." “True,” agreed Benuy. “And they're anxiously waiting to hear you start speaking." he added “Here, here,” said one of the buf faloes, “this sort of thing can go on no longer I will introduce the speak ers of the evening and if you are both I "We Used to Be Harnessed to a Wagon.” so modest I will call on you both to gpeak. “Benny can give the first part of the speech and Billy the second part. That Is fair enough." Then all the buffaloes cheered and said : “You've found a way out. Good foi you!” Billy and Benny grinned and smiled at each other “As long as we are both to speak It is all right," said Billy. - - . . “Yes." sniii Benin. "I did not want to do all th-.- speaking myself for 1 knew yon could do so much better." “I knew yen could." said Billy, "but If we are both to speak they will at lenst have half of the time to listen to a good speech to make up for tin* half of the time when they have to listen to me.” “Exactly the way I fed about it," said Benny. “Silence, partners,” said the buffalo who Imd suggested that they both speak. And fhe buffalo partners us well as the other buffaloes kept very still. “We have with us this evening," be gan the buffalo, “two very fine speak ers. They are both able to speak on any subject, hut they are both so mod e«t that they fed they aren't worth listening to on any subject All the buffaloes grunted and said: “Let us hear these modest speak ers." “We shall hear them." continued the buffalo. “First of all it gives me great pleasure to Introduce to you Mr. Benny Buffalo, and when he is through speak Ing Mr. Blily Buffalo will take the floor—or the ground, to be more eor roet. Anyway. I mean that he will sjieak next arid last. So let me pre sent to you Mr. Benny Buffalo." Mr. Benny Buffalo stood before the other buffaloes while they all cheered. “My partner and myself, fellow buf faloes." he began, “belonged to such >i nice master. We weren't ns wild ns■ most buffaloes. We were tame. We us-*d to la* harnessed to a wagon and over the countryside we would go. I ‘Yes. fellow buffaloes, we've lived j lives much like horses. It is interest j lng to he si buffsilu and yet to have' lived a life like another creature. It j is like lit tie* girls who are really little j girls and yet wlie play hoy-' games and climb tree®. They're nice aid inter ost tig little girls, I have heard. And nov my partner will speak." “Fellow buffaloes." said Billy Buf- 1 uio ^ “we not only acted as horses 1 might, hut we raced horses. May 14, the members held their annual Moth ers’ Day luncheon at the residence of Miss Ray Lee Middleton, 2866 Maple street. Nine mothers were present ■nd participated ill games in which ! Miss'.Wadree Penn and Miss Otis Wat son did the coaching. The amusements being ended, the mothers were greeted by the following menu, which was pre pared by the members: Orange Cups. Jellied Veal. Mashed Potatoes, j Hot Biscuits. Creamed Peas. Combination Salad. Wafers. J Individual Strawberry Shortcake. Whipped Cream. Coffee. The regular meeting was held at t the home of Miss Madree Penn, 4516 Saratoga street, on Wednesday, May I 21st. The regular meeting of May 28 was at the home of Miss Middleton. The1 topic of discussion was in regard to 1 the newly proposed Phi Delta Tennis club.
