SOUTH SIDE i (Mrs. Lulu Thornton, Correspondent) Mr. Ralph Strather and Robert Starnes returned home last week from St. Joseph, Mo., where they were ! visiting friends. Little Miss Mary Gibbs, aged 11, died Thursday of last week, after a prolonged illness, at her home. The funeral services were held Friday at 2 o’clock from the Bethel Baptist I church. The Rev. Thomas Taggart of I ficiated. The Du Bois Dramatic Club No. 2, of which Mrs. Marie Tonedeo is pres , ident and Mr. E. Wiggins is manager, is preparing to present soon a dram j entitled “The Way of the World.’ Mrs. Jesse Moss and Mr. Andrew Reed will play the leading roles. The Bethel Baptist Church will ho'd a picnic Labor Day at the Syndieat Park, South Side. The Sons and Daughters of Jerusa lem will give an entertainment at th home of Mrs. Velma Hill, 5308 So. 27th street. The Allen Chapel A. M. E. Sunday School will hold their annual picnic Saturday, August 19th, at Elmwood Park. Cars leave 24th and N streets at 11:30. Everybody welcome. The quarterly meeting held Sunday August 13th, at Allen Chapel, wa. well attended, and was one of the best in the history of the Church. We had a splendid quarterly conference and the reports were the best the Church has had along financial lines. We hope to close up all work and re ports by September 25th.
