Nebraska Newspapers: Digitizing Nebraska's History

Help

Below is a brief walkthrough of the Nebraska Newspapers website. As we continue to build the website, we will be adding new features, so check back for updates.

It all starts with the Browse Screen.

You can browse by paper or city, using the map of nebraska. Click on a city, or hover on the city to get a list of newspapers available for the city. Either way, you will eventually get to a page like the one below which contains links to issues and information about a particular newspaper.

In addition to browsing by City and Newspaper, you can browse by date using either the date picker (for a single date) or the date range picker, which lets you constrain your search to a range of dates.

Finally, you can browse by searching for a keyword. The keyword search will give you a list of pages containing that word. Clicking on one of these links will take you to the page containing that word. At this time, we are working on a feature that will highlight your search word on the page. Please look for this feature in the near future.

No matter which way you browse, you will get to a results page where you can choose which newspaper you would like to look at. This will lead you to the individual newspaper pages.

The newspaper pages can be zoomed in and out using the controls at the bottom. Below you see an example of a page zoomed in for easier reading. You also have the option of downloading a searchable PDF or a large JPEG (digital image) of the page.
